Creation

The creation story is told through artwork panels designed by local schools and youth groups. There are seven panels, each depicting a day in the creation story.

The basic designs were transferred to the sequoia (redwood) panels at a workshop in June 2008 and burnt onto the panels using pyrographic pens before being coloured using wood dyes.

Day 1: Light over the deep – Boys Brigade. Genesis 3-4 – And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good.

Day 2: The waters are divided from the sky – Priory Youth. Genesis 1:6 – And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

Day 3: Land separates sea and sky, trees and flowers are created – Holly Mount Youth. Genesis 1: 9, 11 – And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.

Day 4: Creation of day and night, showing the sun, moon and stars in the sky – Grove Primary KS2. Genesis 1:16 – God made two great lights – the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

Day 5: Creation of fishes and birds – Grove Primary KS1. Genesis 1:20 – And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

Day 6: Animals, livestock and man - Abberley Parochial V.C. Primary School. Genesis 1:24, 26 – And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind."  Then God said, "Let us make man in our image”.

Day 7: The day of rest – Holy Trinity Youth. Genesis 2:2 – By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
